The V Word (Part One)

Everyone knows that the human body requires a certain amount of vitamins and minerals daily to function properly and remain healthy.

A well balanced diet can supply your body with the nutrients it needs.Various health problems and disorders may arise if your diet does not supply your body with the vitamins it needs.

The symptoms of vitamin deficiency will normally present themselves when the lack of vitamins is at an advanced level.

Those who don’t get enough vitamins A, B1, and B2 for example, will often feel tired, along with a loss of appetite. Other symptoms may include mental and emotional stress, listlessness, chapped lips, and various other symptoms.

The most common causes of deficiency include; a poor diet, alcoholism, stress, a lack of vitamins, or prescription medicine that may interfere with your absorption of vitamins.

If you are always feeling tired or a lack of energy, you may have a deficiency of vitamins in your body. About 20 years ago many people were mega-dosing vitamin supplements to make up for missing nutrients.

Your body is only able to retain a limited amount of nutrients before it starts to either rid itself of the excess or store it in vital organs like the liver.

Mega-dosing can be dangerous as it causes the body to either miss out on vital nutrients or to stockpile it where it shouldn't. Skin blotches, chronic constipation, dehydration, migraines, seizures & anaphylactic shock are just a handful of the symptoms associated with mega dosing.

As a result of this, many people discovered first hand that this did more harm than good. As with any dietary change, always seek the advice of a licensed and trained medical professional before proceeding.

Remember, you have a responsibility to ensure that your body is in optimal condition by treating it well with proper nutrition.

  1. I used to over-vitamize (is that a word?) just like you mentioned in this article. I thought I was doing my body good by taking 5000 + mg vitamin supplements numerous times daily. I guess I was lucky because I did that for close to two years before I confessed to my doctor what I was doing at a routine check-up. She told me pretty much the same thing you mentioned in your article. I was scared to death and I stopped immediately. I am now using liquid vegetarian vitamin supplements and I can definitely tell you that they are very effective. Thank you for informing people about this.

  2. Thanks for commenting 2much2much!

That is quite an experience you had. I am glad you decided to stop with the mega-dosing because (as your doctor no doubt informed you) the long term effects can be quite detrimental and you may not have survived to tell about your experience.

The unfortunate fact is that there are still some people that believe mega-dosing is the way to go. The only thing we all can do is to caution our friends and loved ones & above all share any info (including this article) with them to warn them.

    Thanks again for commenting!
