How To Lose Weight For The New Year!!! (Part One)

If you've never made a New Year's resolution to lose weight, now is the time!

Many people are unable to do so since they have witnessed or heard friends and family members attempt and (sadly) fail to achieve their weight-loss goals.

This can be discouraging, and the fear of failure can make it difficult to commit. This does not have to be your fate. Every journey must begin at a precise location

You want to lose weight. You will eventually lose weight. You'd like to lose the Christmas tummy fat. Just stick to your guns.

To ensure that your body responds effectively to the weight loss, practically all doctors believe that you should aim to drop no more than two pounds per week.

Here are some tips to help you shed 3,500 calories or one pound from your regular routine healthily.

Burning Calories The Easy Way

Running for an hour at a moderate pace can burn around 350 calories depending on your body type, speed, and terrain. Running for one hour five days a week and eating a nutritious diet will help you lose one pound.

It's worth noting that after a run, some athletes ingest large amounts of pasta and other high-carbohydrate items. They justify their actions by claiming that it rewards them for their energy expenditure. In other words, they're refueling for the next race (whenever that may be).

Some runners even believe they deserve a prize for their efforts. After all, the pasta will help them retain a high level of energy, they explain.

They are unaware, however, that while they are true in their belief that carbs can offer energy for activity, they are not actively preparing their bodies to lose weight.

You consume more calories than you would have otherwise if you burn 350 calories but consume 450 calories from a high-carbohydrate pasta dinner.

Weightlifting benefits

Weight training comprises much more than just lifting weights, and it's sometimes combined with aerobic exercise as part of a "circuit."

Some of the natural advantages of weight training include:

- Delaying bone loss

- Strengthening muscles

- Toning and firming up the body

- Muscle mass increases

The majority of people will tell you that lifting weights and doing strength training makes them feel more energized, happier, and less stressed. It's amazing how much better you'll feel if you work out after a long day at the workplace!

You'll discover that, in addition to feeling less melancholy, the endorphins your body generates in reaction to this form of exercise are incredibly addicting.

Running enhances your physical fitness

Running, on the other hand, increases muscular tone and enhances metabolism, helping our bodies to burn calories more efficiently. After a run, instead of eating a pasta dish, opt for a large salad with carbohydrate-dense croutons.

These are just a few suggestions to help you get started.

What do you do to help you shed those extra pounds?

  1. Wow! lots of great info, Kurt!! I never knew that one pound of fat could contain 3500 calories. I know that its easy to eat that amount of calories, but burning it off? I don't know if just running can get you the results you are talking about. I mean what about other forms of exercise like jumping rope or cycling. Activities that can raise your heart rate while burning fat can only help, but I know that you did present this as a series so maybe we'll see some other forms of fat burning techniques.

I appreciate your participation. Yes, the average amount of calories contained in a pound of fat is approximately 3,500 calories. To put it in perspective, a 10 pound fat loss is approximately 35,000 calories (astounding, huh ?).

I totally agree with you about alternative ways you mentioned of shedding the pounds. If I may add a few more: boxing, resistance training, yoga, nearly anything aerobic, dancing, power walking, sensible detoxification methods, etc. These are all proven & effective ways to control & sustain weight loss. However, an article series that long may not appeal to everyone (although, I may have to run a reader poll on this subject to confirm that theory).

At any rate, I do have plans in the future to explore other health/alternative medicine-related series that may be a bit more involved.

    Thanks again for your comment!

  3. Great article Kurt! Very informative and concise. I like the way you broke down weight loss goals into easy to understand numbers. 3500 calories is obtainable and easier to understand than the traditional "inches" or even pounds methods. I'm going to share this article with a few friends of mine who are having a hard time trying to lose weight.

  4. Thank you for commenting, Nathan!

I appreciate it. As I was explaining to 2much2much, an easy to understand number can actually help you almost as much as the actual process of weight loss. In short, caloric intake can affect your weight as well as your appearance.

If you can understand how to change your thinking about how you lose weight from inches & pounds to simpler numerical values, you can achieve the same (or even better) results as using the traditional methods. I know that it helped me & maybe someone else may benefit as well.

    Thanks again for your comment!
