Caprese-Style Salad

It's sweltering in some places, and people are trying to beat the heat. Staying hydrated and getting your vitamins from healthy foods is key. Salads are a fantastic option for both.

The great thing about salads is that they're relatively simple to make. Depending on the type of salad you want to make, just a handful of ingredients are usually needed. 

Top it off, salads can be created in a very short period of time. That's why people love them so much!

Check out this classic salad that everyone loves:

Caprese-Style Salad

2 medium red, ripe tomatoes, cut into eight slices

1 bunch fresh basil, leaves removed, washed and patted dry with a paper towel

8 oz. fresh mozzarella, cut into eight slices

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil

1/8 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper (optional)

1/8 teaspoon sea salt (optional)


Preparation:

On a large serving platter layer slice of tomato, larger basil leaves, and mozzarella slices. 

Repeat the layers while fanning them out slightly on the plate until you’ve used all of the mozzarella and tomato. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper and sea salt, if desired. 

Finish the salad by garnishing with a few small basil leaves, and serve.

Per Serving:250 calories (160 from fat), 18g total fat, 7g saturated fat, 25mg cholesterol, 310 mg sodium, 10g carbohydrates, (2 g dietary fiber, 5g sugar), 14g protein.

  1. My grandma used to make this for every special and not so special occasion. But it was so good. Believe it or not, some of the other mothers and grandmothers in the old neighborhood would stop by just to get a plate to go with their own meals. One of the best salads ever!
