Image
Thanksgiving Week Mini-Series: Holiday Stress, Unwrapped (Part Two) Holiday stress isn’t abstract. It’s not theoretical.  It’s real, and it tends to show up at the exact wrong moment holding a casserole dish you didn’t ask for. Let’s take a walk through some familiar holiday stress-inducing scenarios.  If you find yourself nodding, laughing, or remembering a moment you’ve tried to block out, congratulations—you are extremely normal. Scenario 1: The “Guests Arrived Early” Panic You’ve planned everything down to the minute. The house is almost clean. The food is almost done. You are almost showered. Then the doorbell rings—twenty minutes early. Suddenly you’re greeting family while wearing mismatched socks and hiding laundry behind the couch like it’s a crime scene. Someone says, “It smells amazing in here!” Meanwhile, you know the turkey is still chilling in the oven like it has nowhere to be. This one hits most households every year, and it’s always a reminder that holiday tim...

The Family Factor: Why Togetherness Feeds the Soul

Image
The Gratitude Plate: Part Five Hope you guys are enjoying this series. We've worked hard on this one for you. This is article going to be a short one, though. Sorry.  Now that's out the way : Let’s be honest. Sometimes, the holidays aren’t just about the food on your plate… but who’s sitting around it.  And while family gatherings can warm your heart, they can also test your patience (and maybe your digestion). Still, there’s real science behind why sharing a meal—whether with family, friends, or even your “found family”—can make us healthier and happier. family having dinner together 🍽️ The Emotional Nutrition of Togetherness When we sit down to eat together, something magical happens—our stress hormones (like cortisol) drop, oxytocin levels rise, and our brains get a gentle reminder that we’re safe and connected. 7 Reasons Why the Holidays Stress Us Out (Even Though We Love Them)

Image
Thanksgiving Week Mini-Series: Holiday Stress, Unwrapped (Part One) Let’s be honest: the holidays are a beautiful, sparkly, cinnamon-scented paradox. We look forward to them all year… and then, once they finally show up, we suddenly remember, “Oh right. This is the part where everything gets chaotic.” If you’ve ever felt your eye twitch the moment someone mentions “holiday plans,” you’re not alone. In fact, most of us experience a noticeable uptick in stress this time of year—even when nothing is technically wrong.  The holidays just come with a special blend of pressure, nostalgia, and expectations that can tie our nerves into decorative little bows. So before December sweeps us up like a rogue shopping cart in a crowded parking lot, let’s take a breath and look at why the holidays stress us out in the first place. 1. Balancing the Plate — A Healthier Take on Traditional Favorites

Image
The Gratitude Plate: Part Four  It's the one day of the year when carbs don’t count and seconds are practically mandatory.  Guess which day it is... It's Thanksgiving Day, of course! But what if you could enjoy all the classics and still walk away from the table feeling good instead of groggy? You can.  It’s not about giving up the foods you love, it’s about rethinking the balance on your plate (and maybe sneaking in a few clever swaps your family won’t even notice). 🍗 Let’s Start with the Star: The Turkey Good news — turkey is already a lean protein powerhouse! The trick is how you cook it. Skip the deep-fryer and go for roasting or grilling — you’ll cut fat, not flavor. Try herb butter instead of heavy salt rubs — rosemary, thyme, and sage work wonders. Use the leftover bones to make broth — rich in collagen, great for your gut. Fun fact: Turkey contains tryptophan, the amino acid that helps your body produce serotonin. So yes, that post-dinner nap is scientifically s...

Can You Go Vegetarian This Thanksgiving?

Image
The Gratitude Plate: Part Three  Don't let the title fool you, this isn't about Thanksgiving at least not completely.  Maybe it should be titled: "SHOULD You Go Vegetarian This Thanksgiving?" We'll get to that in a bit. Over the years, We have to admit that We’ve been pretty consistent about our opinions on healthy eating.  Even slightly dogmatic. Shame on us. As many of you may be aware, We’ve always leaned pro-vegan and vegetarian cuisines and those are good diet options.  But we've had a lot of time to look at alternative diets and…let's just say we're a bit more open minded now. Every year, we hear the same question: What’s the healthiest way to eat after the holidays? But here’s a better question—what about during the holidays? The truth is, many of us see the numbers on the scale creep up between October and December. But why is that? It’s a mix of things: chilly weather often means less outdoor activity, shorter days can mess with our energy...
